Click the photo of an old friend of mine (who was rescued from the Nashville chapter a few years ago) for a link to the national site for adopting retired greyhounds! As someone who grew up being taken to a race once a year with my grandmother, I always had a big heart for these dogs. I kept telling my grandma that I just wanted to take one home and let them have the stuffed bunny. Why did they run so hard to not even get to play with the stuffed bunny afterward, not even the winner? I was so sad as a kid about that. Now I think about how hard it is for these dogs all around. When a racer is retired they have to learn everything. They weren’t living the same life other dogs were, in fact most foster families introduce them to everything. We are talking television, car rides, kids, cats, and the list continues. There is also a lot of care they need because their skin is so thin and they are very sensitive to temperatures. Yet after all is said and done, these are great dogs to adopt! They are loving, and lazier than you’d believe!! Two is enough for me right now, but someday just like I told my grandma I’ll give one racer a forever home!
